We are pleased to welcome you to the Richmond Green Secondary School French Department. Language acquisition has been proven to be not only beneficial for brain development, but a strong predictor of future academic achievement. In our program, we offer a variety of courses tailored to our students’ personal experience with the French language. Each course focuses on enhancing the students’ listening, reading, writing and speaking skills in French. In our program, there is a significant emphasis on building strong critical, communication and collaboration skills. We provide a welcoming, immersive environment where students get to participate and share their knowledge in French using fun games, engaging videos, authentic discussions, fieldtrips, etc.

Courses Offered
Grade 9 Open French – for students with less than 600 hours of French.
Grade 9 Academic French – for students who have taken French for 600+ hours of French.
Grade 10 Academic French
Grade 11 University French
Grade 12 University French
French Bilingual Certificate
Upon completion of 4 years of French studies, students will receive a French Bilingual Certificate issued by the school to recognize the students’ abilities in French and to be used for future post-secondary applications. Such certificates are invaluable assets in the world market.
Beyond the classroom
We provide recreational activities for students to cultivate their love of everything French. We organize field trips and guest speakers for the different classes where students are immersed in rich cultural experiences of a francophone region. We have started French café, a student-led club where they play games, watch movies, listen to songs, savor French food, create friendships all while practicing their French. We promote the exposure to the French language in a school-wide setting by playing French music on French Fridays, participating in assemblies, displaying French initiatives led by government organizations and showcasing leadership opportunities within our department.
